More A321s for THY

Another 20 Airbus A321neo (new engine option) jets are on their way to Turkish Airlines after the company firmed up its commitment to purchase them on top of the 72 it already had on order.

CEO Temel Kotil noted THY was one of the world’s fastest-growing airlines and its ambitious growth strategy needed to be fully supported by “efficient, reliable and profitable” aircraft.

He added: “This order for 20 more A321neo aircraft will help us to achieve our expansion plans in a sustainable manner.”

The news follows a period of intensive activity for THY (BTN 2 November). The airline, which holds the record as the carrier that flies to the most destinations – 278 worldwide – has added Miami to its network as its 12th destination in the Americas and eighth in the US. Flights between Cape Town and Istanbul and Durban and Istanbul are also new this year.

Airbus has taken more than 4,300 orders for the A320neo family since its launch in 2010. The A321 is said to offer an increased range of 500 nautical miles over the standard version and claims when the Long Range variant is introduced from 2019, it will be able to fly up to 4,000 nautical miles.  www.turkishairlines.com
