British Airways and the A380

BA has been explaining the unique layout it has on its new 12-strong Airbus A380 fleet.

One aircraft has been delivered with two more due by the end of the year, the fleet not complete until 2015.  See BTN 26 August

The main deck (lower deck) is laid out at the front with 14 First (1+2+1), 24 Club World Business Class (2+4+2) amidships, and the balance 230 World Traveller Economy (3+4+3).

The top deck has the Club World (2+3+2) cabins divided by two (28+28) with a galley in the centre, 49 World Traveller plus amidships (2+3+2), and 72+32 World Traveller taking up the rear (2+4+2)

“We have two decks of Club World seating on the A380 as that is what we have on our other two deck aircraft, Boeing 747s, and because the space allows it.  We have also used the space to create smaller more personalised cabins rather than great big banks of seats like some carriers have stretching into the distance”, said a spokesperson.

Upper deck customers whether Club World, World Traveller Plus or World Traveller board through a separate air bridge.  Disembarkation is the same with Club passengers allowed off first. www.ba.com
