BA new planes update

British Airways continues with its route proving for the Boeing 787 and Airbus A380.

For the 787 it will operate the Heathrow – Stockholm BA780/781 on 27, 29 and 31 August before going into service to Toronto with a 12:15 departure on Sunday 1 September.  The fact that it is a smaller aircraft than the 777 normally used on the route has worked out OK during what is normally a lean time on the route, passengers reporting back no ‘wow’ factor but a nice commercially sound aircraft.

The A380 has been flying with very light loads to Frankfurt, one commentator suggesting that BA had missed an opportunity to really compete cabin-wise with more ambitious airlines.  Passengers are able to roam around both decks and use the twin staircases.  The aircraft will fly the BA902/903 and BA910/911 most Monday’s, Friday’s and Saturday’s until the formal start of services.  The airline offers no guarantee which aircraft type will be used.  If it is specifically the A380 you want to fly on you may finish up on a Boeing 767 or even a A320.

The A380 is scheduled to go into service on Los Angeles (BA 269) 24 September, Hong Kong (BA25) 22 October and Johannesburg (BA55) 14 February. www.britishairways.com/en-lb/information/flight-information/boeing-787
