Thomas Cook Florida

Orlando International (MCO) is to be Thomas Cook Airlines’ Florida gateway next summer instead of Orlando Sanford Airport (SFB).

Whilst the full schedule has not been published the flights are likely to be much the same as this year with two weekly operations out of Glasgow, up to six from Manchester and a limited Gatwick programme.  A330 aircraft are used on all sectors with a 9hrs 40mins outbound time, and about one hour less in the opposite direction.  Thomas Cook prides itself that it is the only ATOL protected airline.

Sanford is nearly 50 miles of freeway from the main Orlando resort area and slightly further from the Kennedy Space Centre and Port Canaveral.

The Orlando Sanford airport terminal concessions have until recently been under the banner of Abertis, the Spanish infrastructure group who also ran Luton Airport.  However the Florida operation is now run by ADC & HAS, created in 2008 by Airport Development Corporation of Canada and Houston Airport System, backed by the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System Pension Fund.  (see BTN 5 August) www.flythomascook.com
