Oxford Airport – Edinburgh air link to fold

The Minoan Air link from Oxford Airport to Edinburgh and Dublin is to close from 4 August.  The announcement came from the airport operator rather than the airline, indicative perhaps of the carrier's marketing problem.  Whilst by all accounts it provided a good reliable service it failed to appreciate a requirement for a proper sales and media programme, relying on word of mouth and expecting the three airports concerned to publicise the routes.

The airport management team says it worked with Minoan Air last week to resolve a contractual dispute which resulted in the cancellation of a single flight to Dublin on Wednesday 17 July.  The problem was resolved overnight and the Minoan flights commenced as normal the following morning.

Oxford Airport stated: “We are disappointed that the routes, which showed so much promise, will be coming to an end.  We thank the passengers that have used the services”.

In early 2010 Varsity Express introduced flights to Edinburgh from Oxford but these lasted only a very short time. (See BTN 15 March 2010)

Passengers holding tickets are advised to contact Minoan Air directly for further information.
