AND FINALLY: The Boeing 747 was a big leap

Downwards!

As part of the 747 certification process at Seattle, BOAC was required to evacuate a full aircraft, including the flight deck crew, within 120sec.

This proved too much for then Flight Ops Director Captain Jack Nichol who designated a junior pilot to rope down through the flight deck window.  “I’ll leave that to the youngsters,” he said. 

It is nearly 50ft.

No broken legs and into service.

PS.  For those too young to know BOAC stands for British Overseas Airways Corporation with the acronym "Better on a Camel" less rude than the one for QANTAS.
