Flybe has started operating 11 new routes to regional destinations in France and Italy from eight UK airports via its new hub at Southampton.
They will operate each weekend until 3 September as part of the airline’s summer schedule from Aberdeen, Belfast City, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle.
The airline said its schedule will be tailored to ensure the connecting time at Southampton is “kept to a minimum”.
Flybe chief revenue officer Vincent Hodder said: “We are delighted to introduce the new Southampton hub to our customers this summer. It further enhances the ever growing number of connections available to those wanting to enjoy fast, convenient travel farther afield from their local airport.”
The new routes join a year-round service being launched by Flybe next month between Birmingham and Hamburg (BTN 15 May). It will initially have up to four flights a week, with additional frequency promised for winter. The airline is the only direct operator on the route to the city, a key business destination.
Also last month, the inaugural flight of Flybe’s three-times-weekly service between the Hungarian capital and Southend (BTN 8 May) was celebrated at Budapest Airport as the airport’s fifth direct connection to London.
