Top award for ANZ

Aviation website airlineratings.com has named Air New Zealand as the world’s best airline for the third consecutive year.

Judges praised ANZ’s continuous passenger innovations, environmental commitment, record-breaking financial performance, operational safety and staff motivation. The carrier also took the honours for best Premium Economy Class and best Economy Class.

The award for best First Class went to Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways, which the judges said had “shaken the industry” with the standard it was setting. They added: “Etihad’s commitment to excellence appears to know no bounds.

Singapore Airlines added to a string of accolades over the past few years by landing the award for best Business Class, described by airlineratings.com as “subtle, elegant, functional and very cosy”. The judges added: “The airline has always listened to its customers and it shows again and again.” SIA also won the award for best inflight entertainment.

In the category for best low-cost airlines, the judges named Virgin America (the Americas), Scoot (Asia/Pacific), Kulula.com (Middle-East/Africa) and Norwegian (Europe), all described as standouts in their respective markets.

Virgin Australia was named best new world carrier and also won the award for best cabin crew along with partner airline Virgin Atlantic.  www.airlineratings.com
