Now fully operational is the Sunborn Yacht Hotel, a masterly approach to overcome the chronic shortage of top quality hotels in Gibraltar. 

In spite of the problems associated with the Spanish border crossing, airport development and runway tunnel the Crown Colony continues to boom with virtually zero unemployment, a tourist and business haven (See  BTN  20 July).  Sad to say that is not the position with Algeciras, over across the bay, with jobs very scarce.  Six thousand Spaniards come into the British territory daily for work.

The idea of a ship hotel was first conceived during the early days of Excel in London’s docklands by a Finish company to overcome lack of on-site accommodation.  Following its success it has been replaced by a new-build ship as a franchise.
