Coventry Air Pageant

Following the success of its AIRBASE Gets Airborne event on 2 May, Classic Air Force (CAF) has announced another celebration of vintage aviation with the creation of the Baginton Air Pageant on 4 July.  Baginton, the village of that name nearby, was the original title of the aerodrome.

The central performance of the pageant will be a re-enactment of the classic air races.

Lining up in this mini-handicap “race” will be a Miles Gemini, a de Havilland Chipmunk, a Taylorcraft Auster and a Percival Proctor, all types that have taken the winner’s laurels for the King’s Cup.

“We want the day to feel like stepping back in time,” said CAF’s Jem Shaw.  “Hopefully, lots of visitors will come dressed to suit the period.  There’ll be a sweepstake to give someone the chance to finish the day with a flight in the first-placed plane, as well as lots of opportunities to fly in other vintage aircraft, so it should be a memorable day.”

Joyriding will be provided by the CAF’s Dragon Rapides.

Also displaying on the day will be other vintage examples from the Classic Air Force collection, including a de Havilland Venom, a Jet Provost T3, the Percival Pembroke and a rare de Havilland Hornet Moth.   www.classicairforce.com
