Amba Hotel Charing Cross

Now fully operational after an extensive renovation is the Amba Hotel Charing Cross, once the Charing Cross Hotel it has 4-star status, with complimentary wi-fi, Smart TVs and an in-room iPad.

The hotel is in a prime position for navigating central London overlooking The Strand and Trafalgar Square.  The Grade II listed building's interior has a modern classic feel, with some odd features including the bright red Sir Giles Gilbert Scott-designed phone booth at the foot of the grand staircase in the lobby.

The event and meeting spaces are all on the first floor.  There are nine in total, accommodating between 10 and 200 guests, with lofty ceilings, heavy drapes and a red, grey and gold colour scheme.

A large proportion of the budget has been spent on updating the 239 bedrooms.  Each has been decorated in a neutral palette of beige, brown and blue.

Amba is the latest brand to be unveiled by the Singapore-based glh Group who are rebranding and upgrading its Thistle properties, some also becoming every Hotel (See BTN 2 March).  Next up is the current Thistle Marble Arch, due to open in the autumn.  www.amba-hotel.com
