Back in August 2014 Business Travel News complained bitterly that travellers using Heathrow Terminal 5 and not a passenger in BA Club World (or eligible in some way) had no executive lounge availability. Heathrow Airport Ltd supplied limited courtesy wi-fi, but other than finding space in a restaurant there was no place to work.
In the other four Heathrow terminals, alternative lounges are available.
Things are about to change. Collinson Group, owner of Priority Pass, has signed a joint venture with Swissport, to introduce the first ‘public’ lounge in the terminal. Swissport, the world’s largest airport services company, purchased the British operator Servisair in 2013 and is in the process of updating and rebranding all its lounges as ‘Aspire’.
Located near Gate 18, the lounge will be the first in Terminal 5 available to all travellers and is designed to meet independent customer demand for a place to work or relax, and also refresh, in one of the world’s leading airport terminals. No firm date has been announced but the ‘Aspire’ lounge is expected to be open by summer 2015. Fee details will be published later. www.executivelounges.com/aspire
