Owned 49.96% by the Government of Luxembourg, but with Lufthansa as a 13% shareholder, Luxair is embarking on a two-stage fleet renewal strategy.
The airline’s present fleet comprises five Boeing 737 NGs, seven Bombardier Q400s and six Embraer ERJ145s. The plan is to essentially replace the small (50-seat) Embraer jets with five of the much more fuel efficient and larger (76-seat) Canadian turboprops.
In an obvious hint regarding the Bombardier CSeries (See in this issue) Luxair says that it is considering purchasing new generation jet aircraft which are still being developed by the manufacturers. These larger capacity jets should be introduced between 2018 and 2020. www.luxair.lu
