Luton to New York Newark

French aviation entrepreneur Frantz Yvelin last week unveiled La Compagnie to the UK, as he put it “a boutique airline”.  (See BTN 19 January)

La Compagnie services from Luton to New York Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) begin on 24 April.  Initially flights will depart at 17:45 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.  Arrival at EWR is at 21:00.  Flights leave Newark at 22:30 on the same day, arriving at 10:30 the following morning.  Very easy to overnight, do a day's business, and return the next evening.

The airline is already established at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport where it has been running  a similar service since July 2014.

Mr Yvelin was the founder of Paris-based L’Avion which was sold to British Airways and continues to operate under the title of Open Skies.  He compares his service to  BA from London City.  Except for the price!   L’Avion starts at £649 tax paid for the first 500 bookings (£1,007 for two).  After they have gone the rate starts at £1,538, about £1,000 less than BA.

La Compagnie will operate a Boeing 757 with just 74 seats convertible to angled flat beds.  The airline investigated Stansted.  An alternative might have been Gatwick complimenting the Norwegian service to JFK. www.lacompagnie.com/UK
