A380 production (part 2)

There has been a furious reaction to the London analyst briefing by Airbus which seemed to indicate that the Airbus A380 could go out of production in 2018 (see part 1).

Emirates boss Sir Tim Clark is said to have reacted angrily and speaking to Reuters news agency said.  "I am not particularly happy as you can imagine.  We are on the hook for this plane.  I get pretty miffed when we have put so much at stake."

Airbus themselves have back tracked.

Fabrice Brégier, who leads the Passenger Jet Division of Airbus, said that the development of a new engine model as well as a stretch variant would happen “one day”, asking “where is the problem with the A380?”

What is even more intriguing is the Emirates A380 position.  When its latest order increase for the Airbus Jumbo was announced in November 2013 no engines were specified leaving the way for this batch of 50 aircraft to be equipped with the latest fine tuned Rolls-Royce Trent 900 with increased fuel economy.  Thai International has this engine on its aircraft and is said to delighted with its efficiency and reliability.

In June Emirates surprised the industry by cancelling a commitment for 70 Rolls-Royce powered A350s. www.airbus.com  www.boeing.com/commercial
