Five weeks after the merger was officially sanctioned, American Airlines and US Airways are extending cooperation further with the start of a codeshare agreement on selected routes from 23 January.
The agreement will enable the airlines to sell seats on the other carrier using its own airline code and flight number.
The first phase will include the main hub airports of each airline, namely Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York JFK, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Reagan National Airport in Washingon DC.
Some international routes will also be covered at this stage and the new American Airlines Group has said that it expects to fully complete the process across both entire networks "in the coming weeks".
The merger will see US Airways leave the Star Alliance on 30 March, and join oneworld on the following day. www.aa.com
