Luton Airport changes hands

Whilst the airport freehold is still owned by the local borough council London Luton Airport Operations Ltd (“LLAOL”), which has a long operator’s contract for the facility, has been acquired by the partnership of Ardian and AENA Group (‘AENA’).

Ardian is an independent private investment company, and AENA is the world's leading airport operator, serving 200m passengers a year.

The new owners say they were attracted to LLAOL by the strong growth in passenger numbers, which grew from 3.4m in 1998 to 10m today, and the benefits that will come from the plans submitted to Luton Borough Council to make the airport better and bigger.  “Ardian and AENA share our commitment to developing an airport that the local area can be proud of”, said a Council spokesperson  (see BTN 4 November).

Luton Airport Managing Director Glyn Jones said: “Our new owners arrive at an exciting period of change that will see the airport transformed.  They come with a detailed knowledge of investment in transport services and infrastructure plus an impressive track record in airport operations. Their support is greatly welcomed as we work to ensure that LLAOL improves and expands the services we provide, for the benefit of our customers, communities and the economy”. www.londonlutonairport.com
