United goes wide bodied

With British Airways set to strengthen its relationship with American, and Delta and Virgin Atlantic getting together, United Airlines has announced a build up of its services between Heathrow and New York-Newark.

In 2014 it will operate all its five daily flights on the route with widebody aircraft during the summer peak season.  The move will increase overall capacity by 5% year-on-year during the April-September period.

Flights currently flown by Boeing 757-200 aircraft will be operated by three-cabin 767-300s with 183 seats – six in United Global First, 26 in United BusinessFirst and 151 in United Economy, including 67 Economy Plus seats with added legroom and increased personal space.  As with all premium cabins on United international long haul flights, Global First and BusinessFirst will feature flat-bed seats.

All United’s Heathrow flights are housed in the new Terminal 2 from 4 June 2014.

Bob Schumacher, United’s Managing Director Sales, UK & Ireland said:  “We operate the largest hub in the New York City metropolitan area at Newark Liberty, offering our customers not only the fastest surface transfers to many parts of the city but fast and convenient connections to cities throughout the Americas.  With these schedule changes, we are responding to growing demand and offering our customers even more choice”. www.united.com
