The Royal Netherlands Air Force is investigating how a Lockheed Martin F-16AM pilot accidentally strafed the control tower at the nation’s Vliehors range on 4 November.
The pilot had been supposed to hit a strafing target approximately 500m (1,6540ft) away from the tower, which received minor damage when it was struck by several live rounds from the aircraft’s 20mm cannon. The two range controllers who were inside the building were uninjured.
This is a true story from last week’s Flight International and not from that worthy publication's Straight & Level column.
