Porter Airlines 10 million passengers

Whilst Toronto Island Airport (officially Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport) dates back to the 1930s it was not until the arrival of Porter Airlines in 2006 that it really took off.  It now vies with London City (and George Best Belfast City) as one of the world’s most successful specialist city airports.

Like London City it owes its success to the introduction of the de Havilland Canada (now Bombardier) series of regional turboprops, locally built in Toronto.

Porter Airlines last week confirmed its 10mth passenger.  In 2007, Porter’s first full calendar year of business, 300,000 people travelled with the airline.  A record of 2.5m passengers flew in 2012.

Porter now operates a fleet of 26 Bombardier Q400 aircraft and serves 19 regional destinations in Eastern Canada and the United States.  A proposal to grow services with the Bombardier C series across North America starting in 2016 is currently being reviewed. www.porterplans.com
