One of London’s truly luxurious hotels is to close for the majority of 2014. Located on Hyde Park Corner and once a distinguished teaching hospital the Lanesborough has announced that it will shut for “an extensive renovation project” on 20 December.
The Lanesborough first opened in 1991, and is part of Starwood’s St Regis group of luxury properties.
The hotel said that the refurbishment will see it have “new designs by world-renowned interior designer, Alberto Pinto”, which will enhance all rooms and public areas and integrate the latest innovations while honouring the building's architectural heritage.
The Lanesborough will be holding an auction of “all existing furnishings and artefacts” between 9 and 13 December, with more than 3,000 lots including "original and reproduction period furnishings, and authentic art work reflecting the grand era of the Regency period".
In addition to the contents of the 93 guest rooms, including 43 suites, the auction will extend to areas of the hotel including private dining rooms, The Library Bar and Apsleys Restaurant.
Geoffrey Gelardi, Managing Director of The Lanesborough, said: “This marks an unprecedented renovation project for the hotel which brings with it the opportunity to purchase a piece of the hotel's history at auction as we pave the way for a new chapter for The Lanesborough”. www.lanesborough.com
