Dubai Airshow preview

The biennial Dubai Airshow will welcome up to 150 aircraft on the static display next week (17 to 21 November) with some appearing for the first time in the Middle East.  The show moves to a new purpose-built home at Dubai World Central (DWC), close by the new terminal building.

Alison Chambers, of Emerald Media, will be reporting on the event once again (her full words are earmarked in for the issue of 2 December with some snippets in the 25 November issue).

This, the 13th show is set to be the largest in its 26 year history, with more than 1,000 exhibitors and up to 60,000 trade visitors expected – up 5% and 7% respectively from 2011.

Order rumours are mounting throughout the industry with Airbus and Boeing seemingly engaged in a (silly) battle to gain the most column inches.  Seattle is thought to be ready to confirm the 777X version of the highly successful twin jet, with Airbus perhaps announcing the end of the A380 sales dearth with Emirates adding to its 90 aircraft order, through a leasing company.  In a move to improve the aircraft’s economics, 11 abreast seating is also being considered. www.dubaiairshow.aero
