Hugh Aitken, easyJet's UK Commercial Manager, last week hosted an inaugural flight by the airline from Gatwick to Bucharest, capital of Romania.
The airline will fly on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with initially, at least, a 156-seat Airbus A319. In fact passenger loads for the first few days of operation were exceptional, the maiden flight nearly full (and with only a small press contingent), the return virtually the same, and a 186-seat A320 used for the first Friday services, once again well over 90% filled.
Mr Aiken said that the airline expected to carry 65,000 passengers on the route the first year. “We are really pleased to add a further destination to our network from London Gatwick,” he said. “Bucharest takes our total destinations (from the airport) past the 100 mark. Gatwick now offers direct flights to 44 of the UK’s largest 50 short haul business markets.
easyJet will normally operate the Bucharest flights out of Gatwick South. Travellers on the airline's flights should carefully note which terminal is used. easyJet is the largest operator at Gatwick Airport. www.easyjet.com
