Toronto City Airport

With the first flight of the CSeries aircraft imminent Porter Airlines, lead airline at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, has submitted an update of its extended runway proposal.  Whilst the airport dates back to before the Second World War the current success has only been brought about with the arrival of Porter Airlines in 2006.  It is within 10 minutes' drive of Toronto city centre.

The original runway proposal presented in May includes a 168m extension into the water at each end of the main strip.  A second suggestion submitted on 3 September, includes a 200 metre extension into the water at each end of the runway.

Both options meet the city's request for no "extension of the Marine Exclusion Zone as currently configured, that would materially encroach upon the western shipping channel".

"We want to be clear that we have now presented two runway designs for the city to review as part of its process", said Robert Deluce, President and CEO of Porter Airlines.  "The 168 metre proposal is still a very good option and one that we support.  The 200 metre option is another scenario that provides other benefits we believe are worth considering". www.porterplans.com
