CSeries first flight

Depending on the weather the much delayed maiden flight of the Bombardier CSeries regional aircraft will take place today (16 September) from the Canadian conglomerate's Mirabel, Quebec facility.  The CSeries is the first large transport aircraft to be designed and assembled by Bombardier, its earlier and successful transport planes developed from previous projects (Dash 8 by de Havilland Canada and the Regional Jet by Canadair).

First announced in 2004 the advanced 120-150 passenger aircraft is designed to fit into the mid-short range market place above the largest Embraer E series and below that of both what is now the Airbus NEO and Boeing MAX ranges.  A special version has been conceived that could offer non-stop flights out of London City Airport to both New York and the Gulf region.

At present firm advance orders for the CSeries stand at 177 with Lufthansa's subsidiary SWISS as the lead airline.  No date has been given for service introduction but early 2015 can be anticipated.

BTN is expected to run a more detailed review of the aircraft next week and readers are welcome to tune into the live website.  www.cseriesfirstflight.bombardier.com
