Would it catch on? Business Travel News reported early in the year (BTN 11 February) that Air Asia was to introduce a ‘child free zone’, and naturally charge for it.
Now local rival Scoot Airlines is about to do the same, and likewise add a similar fee (US$14).
On flights from Singapore to Australia’s Gold Coast and also Sydney, Nanjing and Seoul a no-go section for youngsters has been created. Children under the age of 12 are banned from sitting in this “ScootinSilence” area, which will span rows 21 to 25 on its Boeing 777 flights a total of 41 seats on the widebody.
Malaysia Airlines also banned infants from First Class cabins on its Airbus A380s and Boeing 747s, claiming several passengers have complained of noise from crying babies.
A recent Harris Interactive poll showed that 63% of people surveyed said they would rather sit next to a crying baby than a smelly adult. www.flyscoot.com
