All reviews are subjective, some more than others. Which, the long established UK consumer publication, has published its “Best & Worst" airport report with Newcastle (4.3m passengers in 2012) deemed its 'best large airport’ and Southend ‘best smallest’ (616,000). Each terminal at Gatwick and Heathrow was considered a separate airport.
Southend’s new terminal topped the poll with a customer score of 84% and a maximum 5-star rating in five of the 10 categories assessed. This left other London airports such as City (78%), Heathrow (Terminal 5, 66%), Gatwick (North, 56%) Stansted (50%) and Luton (43%) further down the table.
Categories surveyed included overall design and environment, speed of check-in, security, passport control, information and navigation, food outlets, shops, toilets, and general facilities. Over 11,500 passengers were asked about their airport experiences.
Terminal 5 was considered the best of the Heathrow gateways and Gatwick North first in south London. The train rides and escalators at Heathrow 5 and Stansted did not seem to worry people. Parking and public transport were not included, a somewhat serious omission. Airports large Airports small www.which.co.uk/news/2013/08/which-reveals-the-best-and-worst-uk-airports-330453
