In a move that you might have thought would have been made by one of the airlines from the Far East, Iberia has introduced what is in effect a gamble for an upgrade (except you cannot lose).
Under this new scheme customers can access the “Manage your booking” page on the airline’s website to see if their flight allows bids for a class jump, within the price range indicated.
A few days before departure the upgrades will be awarded to the highest bidders. The winner(s) gain all Business Class services, access to VIP lounges, check-in at the Business Class counters and fast track through the security control, among others.
The innovative scheme is part of Iberia’s new commercial policy, which is designed to increase revenues, while also improving customers’ travel experience – the two chief aims of the company’s Transformation Plan.
Bids can be modified or cancelled up to five days before the departure date. Thereafter, the customers will be notified if they have been awarded the upgrades.
Not really a gamble, as you cannot lose, this new concept applies to all holders of Tourist Class tickets for particular flights, whether they have booked them from the Iberia website, the Serviberia call centre, or travel agencies. www.iberia.com
