Airline ticket charges

In what it clearly a promotion of its own ‘meet and greet’ and off airport parking facilities Airport Parking and Hotels (APH) is now publishing the full facts by comparing the extra charges made by some of the lesser-known airlines on its website ‘Know Before You Go’ section.

The guide highlights the extra charges of 12 low-cost airlines flying from the UK, including Blue Air, Iceland Air, Norwegian Air and Wow Air, and compares the costs for checking-in, and excess baggage, as well as credit and debit card fees.

Checking-in online is free with everyone.  At the airport it can cost with Wizz Air the most at £17.  The difference between the airlines’ admin and booking fees was also found to vary greatly with some offering no charge for online bookings, and yet charging over £18 for bookings made through a call centre or at the airport.

Travellers should be very wary of the charge for checked-in baggage.  Aegean Airlines and Iceland Air offer this complimentary whilst for Wizz Air and Air Berlin a 32kg bag will attract a payment of £102 at the airport.  The charges are complex too.  Take a look at the APH website. www.aph.com/news/knowbeforeyougo/lowcost-airlines.shtml
