Heathrow charges

The row continues on what Heathrow Airport charges airlines, which means in effect how much does the passenger pay.

Rather bizarrely the airport has conducted it own survey which says that travellers will not mind paying more for a better airport.  An independent examination might have come up with other statistics.  Operations at Heathrow cost about twice that of Gatwick, with the current price per passengers £19.33.

Heathrow’s investment plans include the completion of Terminal 2, The Queen’s Terminal, early works on extending the building and the development of a new integrated baggage system.  Also in the pipeline is the construction of new taxiways and stands which will allow Heathrow to accommodate more aircraft.

The Spanish-controlled company (which also includes Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports) says that £11bn that has been invested in Heathrow since 2003 including construction of Terminal 5 for British Airways, a refurbishment of T4 and improvements to T3 and, very visibly, a new control tower.

The final decision regarding any increase in charges rests with the Civil Aviation Authority. www.heathrow.com
