In a statement late on Friday last week the Airport Commission, headed by Sir Howard Davies, announced that it will publish sometime in the next few days a summary of submissions for making the best use of existing capacity in the short and medium term. No specific timetable was given. “Whilst the options proposed will not be linked directly to submitters, a list of submitters will be included in the paper”.
The requirement for compliance does not seemingly give much flexibility, with the only obvious options being the raising of aircraft movements (opening hours and take offs and landings) or the commercial use of RAF Northolt.
The publication will give some indication of Government (and Treasury) influence in the direction that the Commission is going. All the Provincial airports have plenty of scope for more business and work well below any capacity restraints.
