Servisair, which is Britain’s largest airport ground handling company, and is seen in the public arena with its executive lounge offerings, could have a change of ownership.
The firm’s French owner, Derichebourg, posted a statement last week saying it was in an exclusivity period over the 100% disposal of Servisair to Swissport for an undisclosed sum.
Originally a UK-owned and developed operation based near Manchester, in 1999 Servisair was sold to a French company, which following various mergers and acquisitions today trades as Derichebourg Group based in Paris. Servisair operates at 175 airports worldwide with Runcorn, Cheshire, as its Head Office.
Swissport, which is based in Glattbrugg (Switzerland), announced in March it would buy the majority of the ground-handling operations from Nordic airline SAS Group AB. In September 2012, it purchased Flightcare Spain and Flightcare Belgium from Madrid-based FCC Versia SA.
The acquisition of Servisair would add about 15,000 people to the company’s 40,000 employees, Swissport said in the joint statement. www.derichebourg.com www.swissport.com www.servisair.com
