Darwin to London

OAG does not officially list Darwin to London these days.  Smart bookers and regular travellers will not have any trouble linking up on the screen (and indeed via the mighty printed timetable still available) what was once a popular Qantas/British Airways service.  In any event one world member Malaysia Airlines has stepped in and reinstated a route it itself closed back in 2002 to provide passengers, particularly those travelling from the UK, easier access to Australia’s Northern Territory.

From 1 November the airlines double daily A380 service from Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur will connect to Darwin. Malaysia Airlines will this coming winter serve a total of seven destinations across Australia and New Zealand.

Between Kuala Lumpur and Darwin, the national carrier will operate a five times weekly service with latest 160-seater Boeing 737-800 New Generation. The aircraft provides 16 business and 144 economy seats, including on-demand in-flight entertainment system for every passenger.  Flight time is around 4.5hrs

Tourism Australia’s Managing Director Andrew McEvoy said, “This service heralds a fantastic opening for UK tourism in Darwin and the Northern Territory.  They’ll now have easy and direct access to the wonders of the Top End, including lush rainforests, exceptional wildlife and ancient rock art galleries”. www.malaysiaairlines.com
