Drop-off charges at Gatwick

Contrary to rumours Gatwick Airport is not about to charge for dropping off and picking up passengers at either terminal.  What the airport is doing is ‘encouraging’ drivers to be as quick as possible with regard to their passengers.

“We are seeing an increasing amount of congestion on our forecourts”, said a spokeswoman, “mainly from people waiting to collect passengers, who tend to have a longer dwell time.  We want to be able to continue to offer people the facility to drop off in these areas so it’s essential we maintain the space for them to do this.  It’s also important to get this under control now as we continue to grow our passenger numbers or, in the coming years, congestion is going to cause much bigger problems.

It currently costs £3 to park in the short stay car parks for 30 minutes.

“It has always been official policy that Gatwick’s short stay car parks should be used when picking up passengers by private car or taxi.  Due to increasing congestion at Gatwick’s forecourt areas, we will now be enforcing this policy at both terminals.  This will ensure that space at our forecourts is protected for passengers being dropped off – a facility we continue to offer for free”. www.gatwickairport.com
