Virgin drops Ghana

Accra is to be discontinued by Virgin Atlantic from 23 September.

“We have had to take the difficult decision to suspend our service between London and Accra”, the airline said in a statement.  “In terms of our aircraft, it will be used to support the fleet over the coming months and the suspension will then enable us to return an A340-300 at the end of its lease next Spring”.

“The price of fuel in Ghana, coupled with a lack of attractive arrival slots into Heathrow and a continued weak global economy, has all contributed to this decision”.

“These are still challenging times for the airline industry and we have to deploy our aircraft to routes with the right level of demand to be financially viable”.

British Airways operate daily with a Boeing 777-200.  The Virgin frequency is five times weekly. www.virginatlantic.com
