Boeing 757s for Aer Lingus

In spite of the shenanigans with Ryanair, which must be time consuming for the senior management, Aer Lingus is pushing forward with ambitious plans for 2014.  Three Boeing 757s are likely to be acquired in a ‘damp lease’, usually aircraft plus flight deck crew from Dublin-based Air Contractors.

“The use of Dublin as a hub for connecting traffic flows and the partnerships in North America are giving us a lot of comfort that there is more growth in the market”, Chief Commercial Officer Stephen Kavanagh said on a conference call.  “The 757 is a smaller-gauge aircraft and it is more flexible”.

Aer Lingus has recently moved all its UK routes (including the Aer Arann franchise) into Dublin’s Terminal 2, which has US immigration services and a quick transfer facility.  It currently serves Boston, Chicago, New York (JFK) and Orlando with seven Airbus A330s.  The 757s are rumoured to be based at Shannon enabling new routes and partnerships to be sought and freeing up A330s for expanding services. www.aerlingus.com (See BTN 27 May)
