Dubai says airport problems being solved

Speaking in Dubai at a press conference on 1 April to welcome the Emirates-Qantas partnership, Emirates’ President Tim Clark said that problems concerning delays at immigration “were a matter of high priority which we would hope to solve within weeks”.  The gathering was held in the large lecture theatre within the new and impressive Emirates headquarters building.

Passing through the passport controls for those entering the UAE can be a nightmare, even Fast Track, at certain times, a 30-minute wait.

Qantas, the only other airline to use the brand new Concourse A, does not have this problem with a dedicated reception area and at the most only two aircraft to deal with at a time.

Mr Clark called the hold ups “a victim of the airline’s (Emirates) success”.  He said that the plan was to add more desks and to introduce a fully automated photo identity system.

Whilst obviously promoting the new relationship Mr Clark could not resist the opportunity of having a swipe at the British Government regarding the rise in APD, and said it was “commercially naive".  The taxes increased on 1 April. www.emirates.com
