Today (Monday 21 March) sees the transfer of all flights to a new terminal at Queen Alia International Airport, Amman. The building itself was officially opened by His Majesty King Abdullah II on 14 March.
Designed by Foster + Partners, responsible for Hong Kong and Stansted airports amongst others, the new terminal covers 103,000sq m, double the one it replaces. Airport capacity will rise from the present 3.5m to 9m passengers per year with a potential 12m per year in the final stage.
The innovative building is a landmark in the country and one of the most developed and advanced gateways in the region, in terms of construction and design, which blend Islamic architecture with the latest technology. Royal Jordanian operates more than 100 flights daily, making up 60% of the traffic. http://airport-authority.com/amm
