Norwegian Air Shuttle (DY), affectionately known as Norwegian, is to strengthen its Gatwick (LGW) operation this summer with 10 new services to mainly Mediterranean holiday destinations. It was previously at Stansted. It is based at Gatwick South and is the only budget carrier in Europe to offer free wi-fi.
Presently the airline operates 11 routes to the major airports in Norway, Sweden and Denmark including three daily services (except weekends) to each of Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm increasing by 70% this year over last, 320 weekly flights to and from LGW by late summer 2013.
In what is seen as a vote of confidence with the Boeing 787 the airline says it will start services from Copenhagen and Stockholm to Ft Lauderdale in November.
Norwegian is Europe’s third largest low-cost carrier, the second-biggest airline in Scandinavia, and number nine in Europe when it comes to passengers flown. It carried 17.7m passengers last year on its 73 strong all Boeing fleet (mainly 737-800). It has on order 100 A320 Neo, 100 B737 MAX, 22 737-800, and eight Boeing Dreamliners. www.norwegian.com/uk
