In a celebration of International Women’s Day, Air France took to the air last Thursday (7 March) with an all-female Airbus A380 crew. Flight AF054 Paris to Washington was operated by two lady pilots and 22 cabin staff. Air France Super Jumbos can carry up to 516 passengers.
Christine Heitz, Flight Captain on the Airbus A380, said: “Seeing an all-female crew lifts people’s spirits. I am very excited about being on board this flight. It’s an opportunity for us to enjoy this flight with our passengers and strengthen links among colleagues”.
Air France has celebrated International Women’s Day for several years. All-female flight crews often operate at various other times of the year, but the 8 March female crew has become an established tradition at Air France. Whether they are flying to Beijing, Tokyo, Mexico City or today to Washington, these all-female flights are always a popular event for both crew and passengers.
We do not have the total AF flight deck numbers for ladies but British Airways says it is about 5% (of 3,200). On previous occasions no extra long queues for the rest rooms were reported. www.airfrance.com
