Ethiopian Airways, one of the launch carriers for the Boeing 787, says that the grounding of the plane has been managed well with little effect to its programme. To date four have been delivered of the nine on order. The airline says it has not encountered the type of problems as suffered by other operators.
Ethiopian Airways is a member of the Star Alliance and currently operates six non-stop two-class Boeing 767 services to it hub at Addis Ababa from Heathrow. It is the country’s flag carrier and presently serves 62 international destinations and 16 domestic. It is one of the few profitable airlines in the sub-Saharan region and is among the largest on the continent.
From 31 March Ethiopian introduces new routes to Blantyre, Malawi and Ndola in northern Zambia with London connections on certain days in both directions. www.ethiopianairlines.com
