Iberia has taken delivery of the first of the five Airbus A330s that will enter service with the Spanish airline this year. It is equipped with an innovative Business Plus and Economy Class interior and will be used for long haul flights, mostly to South America.
The new A330 fleet (eight firm and eight options) will replace the airline's 13 uneconomical, and smaller passenger-wise A340-300s, which leaves the carrier with 17 A340-600s (342 seats) to consider.
On the strike front, at a meeting on Thursday (21 February) both parties agreed to go a mediator. However any decisions will not be binding. The Union will go on with future strike dates. Reports have suggested that the strike has not been that successful with 70,000 people affected with the great majority moved to other airlines and the rest getting their money back. The next walkout is scheduled for 4 March but this could be more serious with some of the pilots joining in. www.iberia.com
