Bill Clinton at WTTC

Former US President Bill Clinton will head a distinguished gathering of celebrated travellers when he delivers the keynote address at the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit, Abu Dhabi, 9-10 April.  Other speakers include broadcaster Sir David Frost, actress Daryl Hannah, environmentalist Sir Jonathon Porritt, and adventurer David de Rothschild.

Last week in a statement to promote the conference which he will host David Scowsill, President & CEO, WTTC, complimented the British Prime Minister in his bid to allow more Chinese visitors into the UK and for the country to become part of the Schengen European ‘open travel’ area.

“Anything which allows people to travel more easily can only be a good thing, socially and economically, for the UK.  But this is just one small step.  The UK’s restrictive visa policies are making the UK uncompetitive and the UK Government now needs to loosen visa bureaucracy for other emerging markets like China.  Chinese outbound travellers totalled 84 million last year and the UK receives only a small fraction of them.

It’s time for Britain to become part of the Schengen system that offers Chinese visitors the chance to visit 26 countries in Europe on a single visa”.  www.wttc.org
