Boeing and Emirates

Speaking to the media at the opening of Dubai International’s new Concourse A in Terminal 3, President of Emirates, Tim Clark, took questions on the proposed Boeing 777X.  “I believe it will be launched and we'll see that in six to nine months", he said.

The airline is the world’s largest operator of the type with 122 in service and orders outstanding for 73.  He said that Emirates would need to replace its older 777s from 2017, which is prompting the push for a new version.

At the same briefing Mr Clark was questioned regarding the airline’s plans for India, a huge potential market.

“As of now, the number of seats (we can offer in India per week) and flights are capped.  That is regrettable.  Emirates can offer Indians connectivity to many points which are right now not available from India.  We are asking for the number of seats to be doubled and access to at least five or six more ports of call from India”.

Asked by this publication regarding Premium Economy, he said that he would not say ‘never’ but noted the airline’s basic product offered plenty of leg room and the latest seat back TV system, the same as on the rest of the aircraft. www.emirates.com
