The massive new Dubai Al Maktoum Airport, which began cargo operations two years ago, expects to open its long-delayed passenger terminal by the end of 2013 it was announced during MEBA (Middle East Business Aviation show).
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al-Maktoum is President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Dubai Airports. Speaking at a press conference at the show he told reporters: "We will look to open passenger terminal by end of next year. Hopefully before the next Air Show in Dubai, we will open passenger terminal".
The Al Maktoum airport, part of the Dubai World Central logistics complex, was originally due to open for passenger traffic in March last year.
The huge new airport is designed to handle 160m passengers as Dubai attempts to take advantage of its central location between continents. Business Travel News plans to run a full ON TOUR of MEBA in the 7 January issue. www.dwc.ae
