Living the Dream (787 style)

Thomson Airways has revealed that its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner will be named ‘Living the Dream’ after inviting suggestions on Twitter.

Glaswegian NicolaThomson's idea was chosen from more than 2,000 entries and she has visited Glasgow Airport to unveil the name on a model of the futuristic aircraft, in advance of the real thing arriving in May 2013.  The judging panel was moved by the story behind Nicola’s entry, which she dedicated to Great Britain’s sporting achievements this year and her own personal triumph recovering from neuro surgery.

As well as naming the Dreamliner, Nicola will experience it for herself when Thomson becomes the first UK airline to take delivery of the aircraft next year.  From Glasgow it will be operating weekly flights to Cancun, Mexico, and Sanford, Florida.

Chris Browne, Managing Director of Thomson Airways, said: “We were overwhelmed by the response from the public to the ‘name our plane’ when judging the entries.  However, we were moved by Nicola’s inspiring story which meant that ‘Living the Dream’ really stood out”.

Thomson Airways has 13 Dreamliners on order and, whilst the full specification has not been revealed, they are thought to offer 291 seats, of which 47 will be in an upgraded class. www.thomson.co.uk
