Baggage: Diverging views

Monarch and Wizz Air have come to diverse conclusions with their hand baggage policies and both are claiming to have found an answer to the perennial problem.  In the meantime easyJet confirms that you can bring on board what you like within reason (and security concerns).

With Monarch on its schedule services passengers are to be allowed two items of hand baggage.  Except for Luton, which only allows one piece.  Combined the items must not exceed 56 x 40 x 25cm, and weight a paltry 10kg.  On board, one of these items must be placed under the seat in front whilst the other can go in an overhead locker. New gauges will be installed at airports to help passengers check their hand baggage is within the size range.

Wizz Air now has a rule which offers either a free small cabin bag (up to 42 x 32 x 25cm) or, by paying a €10 online fee during booking, a larger cabin bag (up to 56 x 45 x 25cm) is allowed on board.

The airline says that first indications are that the scheme is successful. www.wizzair.com www.monarch.co.uk
