Nigerian air transport was thrown into disarray last week with the decision by Arik Air’s Executive Board to temporarily suspend all domestic operations. This follows what the airline calls “unwarranted actions” by the Ministry of Aviation and The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) which it claims is disrupting domestic operations and the airline’s customers.
In a strongly worded statement the airline notes that international and regional flights were still fully operational and remain unaffected.
“Arik Air continues to meet its obligations under agreed payment arrangements with FAAN. Any other suggestion is simply not true. We are fully committed to resolving this disagreement and restoring domestic flights as soon as possible”. As of late Sunday evening the airline has recommenced all services and flights are expected to return to normal today (Monday 24 September). www.arikair.com
