Christchurch normality

Ibis Christchurch is now welcoming guests, becoming the first central area hotel to re-open since a devastating earthquake hit New Zealand's South Island city in February 2011.

The ibis – located in Hereford Street, just off Cathedral Square – has undergone major remedial work, including the renovation of all 155 rooms and public areas, as well as structural strengthening to meet the city's new building code.  The hotel opening will play a crucial role in the revitalisation of Christchurch's tourism sector, signalling that the city is firmly back on the map and ready to welcome visitors.

In another unrelated move, but a clear demonstration of a return to normality, Boeing has contracted with local aircraft engineering company Altitude Aerospace Interiors for the completion of Samsun Electronics’ new BBJ 737-700 executive jet.  This will take 10 months.

Boeing set a new world record for "Speed Over a Recognized Course" when the BBJ flew non-stop from Los Angeles to Auckland, a 5,658 nautical mile trip in 13hrs 7mins. www.altitude-ai.com www.ibishotel.com
