Lufthansa strike update

Travellers flying on Lufthansa should be aware that for the next six weeks at least they will not be confronted with flight cancellations caused by cabin crew strikes.

After the airline offered permanent contracts to some temporary staff and met union representatives on Friday it was agreed to begin a formal mediation procedure, set for next Wednesday.  If talks fail, further industrial action is possible, but this is not on the radar screen according to the UFO Union, representing the aircrew.

Both sides now need to agree on the appointment of an independent mediator.

Previous talks broke down and strikes forced Lufthansa to cancel over 1,000 flights, after 13 months of negotiations over pay and working conditions. www.lufthansa.com
